It handles everything from 3/32-inch single-strength window glass to 3/4-inch heavy plate.
Standard soda-lime glass has a density of about 157.5 lb/ft³ (2,500 kg/m³). The weight formula is simple: Weight = Width x Height x Thickness x Density. A quick shorthand: 1/4-inch glass weighs about 3.28 lbs per square foot.
Here are common weights per square foot by thickness: 1/8" = 1.64 lbs, 3/16" = 2.46 lbs, 1/4" = 3.28 lbs, 3/8" = 4.92 lbs, 1/2" = 6.56 lbs, 3/4" = 9.84 lbs. Tempered glass weighs the same as standard glass of equal thickness since the tempering process does not change the density.
Laminated glass is slightly heavier because of the interlayer (PVB or SGP), but the difference is small, roughly 1-2% more. For practical purposes, you can use this calculator for laminated glass and the result will be very close.
