Pace Converter
Easily convert between pace and speed formats used by runners worldwide. Whether you think in minutes per kilometer, minutes per mile, km/h, or mph, this converter instantly translates between all four formats.
Running pace and speed are inversely related: pace measures time per distance (min/km or min/mile), while speed measures distance per time (km/h or mph). Runners typically use pace because it directly relates to split times during training and racing. A 5:00 min/km pace means you cover each kilometer in exactly 5 minutes.
The metric (min/km) and imperial (min/mile) systems are both widely used, with most of the world using min/km and the United States primarily using min/mile. The conversion factor is the mile-to-kilometer ratio of 1.60934. A 5:00 min/km pace equals approximately 8:03 min/mile, and a 7:00 min/mile pace equals approximately 4:21 min/km.
Speed (km/h or mph) is more commonly used in cycling, driving, and by some GPS watches. It is also useful for comparing running effort to other forms of exercise. A 6:00 min/km pace equals 10 km/h, while a 4:00 min/km pace equals 15 km/h. Speed is the more intuitive format for many non-runners.
