# Navy PRT Calculator

Score your Navy Physical Readiness Test (PRT) for push-ups, forearm plank, and 1.5-mile run. Get your performance category by age group and gender.

## What this calculates

The Navy Physical Readiness Test (PRT) is a semi-annual fitness assessment required for all active duty and reserve Navy personnel. Enter your push-ups, forearm plank time, and 1.5-mile run time to see how you score against the official standards for your age group.

## Inputs

- **Age Group** — options: 17-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65+
- **Gender** — options: Male, Female
- **Push-ups (2 minutes)** — min 0, max 150 — Maximum push-ups in 2 minutes
- **Forearm Plank (minutes part)** (min) — min 0, max 5 — Minutes portion of your plank hold time
- **Forearm Plank (seconds part)** (sec) — min 0, max 59 — Seconds portion of your plank hold time
- **1.5-Mile Run (minutes part)** (min) — min 5, max 30 — Minutes portion of your 1.5-mile run time
- **1.5-Mile Run (seconds part)** (sec) — min 0, max 59 — Seconds portion of your 1.5-mile run time

## Outputs

- **1.5-Mile Run Score** — formatted as text — Performance category for cardio
- **Overall PRT Assessment** — formatted as text — Overall pass/fail and performance level

## Details

The Navy PRT consists of three events: push-ups (2-minute maximum), forearm plank (timed hold), and a 1.5-mile run. The forearm plank replaced curl-ups/sit-ups starting in 2021 as part of the Navy's updated fitness standards. Cardio alternatives include a 500-yard or 450-meter swim, a 2,000-meter row, or a stationary bike test, but the 1.5-mile run is the most common.

Performance in each event is scored into one of five categories: Outstanding, Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, or Fail. To pass the PRT, you must score at least Satisfactory in all three events. Failing any single event means failing the entire test.

The standards adjust by age group and gender. Younger sailors face stricter thresholds, particularly for the cardio event. Age groups span from 17-19 through 65+, with requirements easing at each bracket.

Sailors who score Outstanding in all categories earn recognition and may be eligible for physical fitness assessment (PFA) waivers. Consistent failures can lead to administrative consequences including separation.

This calculator provides approximate scoring based on published Navy PRT standards. For official scoring, refer to the current NAVADMIN and your Command Fitness Leader (CFL).

## Frequently Asked Questions

**Q: What replaced sit-ups on the Navy PRT?**

A: The forearm plank replaced curl-ups (sit-ups) starting in 2021. The Navy made this change to reduce the risk of lower back injuries associated with sit-ups and because the plank better measures core endurance. The plank is held in a standard forearm position, and the time is recorded when proper form can no longer be maintained.

**Q: How many push-ups do I need to pass the Navy PRT?**

A: The minimum number of push-ups varies by age group and gender. For example, a male sailor aged 20-24 needs approximately 37 push-ups in 2 minutes for a Satisfactory score. Older age groups require fewer repetitions. The exact standards are published in the current NAVADMIN PFA policy update.

**Q: Can I choose a cardio alternative instead of the run?**

A: Yes. The Navy allows several cardio alternatives: a 500-yard swim, 450-meter swim, 2,000-meter row on a Concept2 ergometer, or a stationary bike test. Each alternative has its own time-based scoring table. The 1.5-mile run remains the most commonly administered option.

**Q: How often is the Navy PRT administered?**

A: The PRT is administered twice per year (semi-annually), typically in spring and fall PFA cycles. Sailors must also pass a Body Composition Assessment (BCA) before taking the PRT. Those who fail the BCA do not take the PRT and are entered into a Fitness Enhancement Program (FEP).
